Over 400 Fulani Christian converts tasked on peace

Over 400 Fulani Christian converts have been tasked on preaching the gospel of peace to their kindred in order to reduce the prevailing crises in the country. Rev. Copper Sebok, Reverend in charge of COCIN Church Panyam, gave the charge on Sunday at the end of a 3-day conference organised for all Fulani converts of all denominations across the country.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the conference was aimed at awakening the need for preaching peace to their fellow brothers and sisters across the country.

“The conference is also a re-union service for all Fulani converts regardless of their denominations and to share experiences and encourage one another in the propagation of the gospel of peace.

“It is a concept of COCIN 43 years ago, and to debunk the notion that Fulani’s are nomadic and can’t be reached with the gospel of Christ.’

In his sermon, read from Matt 9: 35-38, the clergy said man must have compassion on the unsaved to draw them to Christ for eternal salvation.

He decried the level of crises in Nigeria which usually resulted to loss of lives and property, adding that Nigerians must embrace peace for the progress and development of the nation. Rev. Hassan Mohammed, who spoke on behalf of the converts, expressed gratitude to God for giving them a new lease of life as Christians.

He disclosed that the conference was an eye opener for them to go and proclaim the gospel not only to their kindred but to all nations. “We have a total of seven Fulani people ordained Reverends beside other Pastors and Evangelists and we are doing our best to enlighten our brothers and sisters about Christianity,’’ Mohammed said.

He thanked the organizers of the conference and appealed to both Christians and Muslim to continue to pray for the peace of the country.

Turkey sacks 3,900 public officials, bans TV dating shows in latest purge.

Turkey has sacked almost 3,900 people from the civil service and the military, in the second major purge since President Erdogan was granted sweeping new powers.

It appears to be the latest crackdown linked to last July’s failed coup, after the government announced the officials had been fired for suspected links to ‘terrorist organisations and structures presenting a threat to national security’.

In a separate decree, TV dating shows were banned. It comes after the Deputy prime minister said the shows were at odds with Turkey’s faith and culture.

Earlier in the day, internet users found they couldn’t access Wikipedia, after the government blocked it citing a law allowing it to ban access to websites deemed obscene or a threat to national security.

“Thousands of internet users are facing the AK Party’s bans. If this is terrorism related, you can change the context (of an article) but they prefer to block the website completely.

This was done with YouTube and Twitter before and now it is Wikipedia. But they will see this is the wrong approach and I believe this will be reversed.”

The move comes after Erdogan narrowly won a referendum to grant him new powers, something which opponents feared would see the country lurch towards authoritarianism.

Syria: airstrike in Hama kills 8 White Helmets rescuers

Saturday’s aerial attack is one of the deadliest against volunteers, who are often targeted by regime airstrikes.

Airstrikes struck a centre of Syria’s rescuers known as the White Helmets in a rebel-held area in the country’s centre, killing eight volunteers, opposition activists said.

Saturday’s airstrike was one of the deadliest against the rescuers who operate in opposition-held areas and who have garnered world attention for operating in extreme conditions, pulling survivors out of recently struck areas.

The volunteers have often been targeted by government airstrikes, in what are known as ‘double tap’ attacks, as they work to rescue others.

The local White Helmets in the central Hama province said an air raid on one of their centres in Kfar Zeita killed eight members of the team.

The group said five bodies were lifted from the rubble and the rescuers continued to look for the others.

Death toll may spurt: monitor The Britain-based opposition monitoring group, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, has said the number of those killed is likely to rise as the search mission continues. It was not clear who carried out the airstrikes, as Syrian government and Russia aircraft have targeted opposition- held areas.

The central Hama province have been scene to intense violence in recent weeks, as the government attempts to push back a rebel offensive.

IS attack repelled Separately on Saturday, Syria’s military said its troops and allied fighters repelled an attack by the Islamic State group on a strategic area held by the government in southern Aleppo province.
.The attack took place in Khanaser, south-east Aleppo — a strategic region that links Aleppo with central and western Syria. The area has changed hands many times during the conflict. But last year, government troops and allied fighters wrested control of Khanaser from the IS.

The military media arm said the IS attacked Um Mayyal village near a mountain range in Khanaser and other areas.

Many casualties
The Observatory said IS fighters launched the attack on military posts in the area, triggering intense clashes and leaving many casualties. IS-affiliated Aamaq news agency claimed the barbaric group’s fighters killed 30 government soldiers in the attack. Near the capital, hundreds of Syrians from the rebel- held suburbs of eastern Ghouta near Damascus protested against infighting between the insurgent groups that began on Friday and left dozens killed in the area.

The infighting came amid an intensified government offensive in the area near Damascus, which the rebels have controlled for years but has been increasingly squeezed by government advances. “God rid us of all leaders” “God rid us of all leaders,” the protesters chanted, criticising the head of the insurgent groups for diverting their weapons from the front line with the government.

The infighting is pitting the powerful Army of Islam group against al-Rahman Corps and al-Qaeda-linked group — the Levant Liberation Committee, or Hayat Tahrir al-Sham. Each side blames the other for triggering the fighting in the power struggle over control of eastern Ghouta.

Some activists have called on Army of Islam to rid eastern Ghouta of the powerful al-Qaeda-linked group. The Observatory said shots were fired at the protesters in one area, leaving five injured.

38 insurgents killed?
In 24 hours of fighting, the Observatory said at least 38 insurgents from the warring sides were killed. Damascus-based Shaam News Network put the number at 60, in addition to six civilians killed because of the clashes.

For the past three years, the government has been unable to regain control of the eastern suburbs of Damascus. But in recent weeks, an intensified offensive points to a new determination to retake the area.

On Saturday, activists reported a heavy air campaign against the area’s Qaboun neighbourhood.

I’ll soon give true account of 2015 election — Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed claims by respondents in a book written by the Chairman of the Editorial Board of ThisDay, Mr. Segun Adeniyi.

Jonathan, who stated this in his twitter handle on Saturday , faulted claims by respondents in the book , “ Against the Run of Play. ” He said many of those that responded to issues surrounding the 2015 presidential election made distorted claims.

He said, “ I have just read Segun Adeniyi's new book , ‘ Against the Run of Play’ which has so far enjoyed tremendous reviews in the media. My take on it is that the book as presented, contains many distorted claims on the 2015 presidential election by many of the respondents “ There will obviously be more books like that on this subject by concerned Nigerians.

However, I believe that at the right time, the main characters in the election including myself will come out with a true account of what transpired either in major interviews or books.

” Among respondents in the book are former President Olusegun Obasanjo ; ex-Senate President , Senator David Mark ; Borno State Governor , Kashim Shettima ; a former Niger Governor , Babangida Aliyu and the Minister of Transportation , Rotimi Amaechi.

Mark was reported to have said that he envisaged Jonathan's defeat and even warned him but all warnings fell on deaf ears . On his part , Obasanjo said he warned Jonathan against running and also alleged that the ex-President used Boko Haram problem to rape the treasury.

He further said Jonathan was incompetent and was too small for the presidency from the outset.

Shettima said Jonathan only called me once for a meeting over Boko Haram . He lamented that Jonathan was not committed to the efforts to fight Boko Haram insurgency in the North -East. On his part , Aliyu said if Jonathan had not reneged on his promise not to pursue a second term , Peoples Democratic Party would not have lost .

The ex -Rivers State Governor , Amaechi , attributed the cause of his grudge with Jonathan to illegal and excess deduction from the federation account by the former president. He said, “I could not surrender my mandate to a woman (Patience ) in Abuja, even if such a person was the wife of the President.

That basically was my sin with Dame Patience Jonathan .” Polls, a credit to Nigerians — UK Meanwhile , the United Kingdom has denied an allegation by Jonathan that it supported President Muhammadu Buhari during the 2015 presidential election.

The UK High Commission, in a statement on Saturday by its Press and Public Affairs Officer, Joe Abuku , said the 2015 elections were a credit to Nigerians. It said, “ Prior to the 2015 elections in Nigeria, the UK engaged with Nigerian political parties and their leaders to urge them to run a fair, non - violent campaign and allow Nigerian voters to decide who their future political leadership would be.

“ The UK congratulated President Jonathan on having handed over power peacefully in 2015 having lost the Nigerian presidential election.

The elections were a credit to the Nigerian people and a truly historic moment for Nigerian democracy.
This process further strengthened Nigeria’s democratic tradition . “

The United Kingdom welcomes the assessment of independent observers , including the EU , that Nigeria’ s elections were largely peaceful and conducted in accordance with recognised international democratic norms, and that there was no evidence of systemic manipulation of the process .”

Philippine leader says N Korea 'wants to end world'

Rodrigo Duterte says North Korean leader Kim wants to 'finish everything' and 'drag us all down' in a nuclear war.

Philippine president warns US President Trump not to play games North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday urged the United States to show restraint after North Korea's latest missile test and to avoid playing into the hands of leader Kim Jong-un, who "wants to end the world".

Tensions between the US and the North have risen sharply in recent weeks as a series of North Korean missile tests have prompted dire warnings from President Donald Trump's administration about curtailing its nuclear weapons programme.

US officials have repeatedly warned "all options are on the table" - including military strikes - to curb the North's nuclear ambitions.

North Korea has responded by threatening to sink the aircraft carrier and launch nuclear attacks on the US' regional allies South Korea and Japan. North Korea conducts another ballistic-missile test.

The notoriously blunt Duterte said the Southeast Asia region was extremely worried about tensions between the United States and North Korea, and said one misstep would be a "catastrophe" and Asia would be the first victim of a nuclear war.

The United States, Japan, South Korea and China, he said, were sparring with a man who was excited about the prospect of firing missiles. Duterte is current chairman of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) and was to speak by telephone to US President Donald Trump later on Saturday.

He said he would urge Trump not to get into a confrontation with Kim. "There seems to be two countries playing with their toys and those toys are not really to entertain," he told a news conference after the ASEAN summit in Manila, referring to Washington and Pyongyang.

"You know that they are playing with somebody who relishes letting go of missiles and everything. I would not want to go into his [Kim's] mind because I really do not know what's inside but he's putting Mother Earth, the planet to an edge." North Korea test-fired a ballistic missile on Saturday shortly after US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned that failure to curb Pyongyang's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes could lead to "catastrophic consequences".

U.S and South Korean officials said the test appeared to have failed, in what would be the North's fourth straight unsuccessful missile test since March.

"Immediately after the aircraft carrier arrived in the Sea of Japan, South Korea and the US strike forces launched a drill from 6:00pm [09:00GMT]," a defence ministry spokesman told AFP news agency.

Trump fears ‘major conflict’ with North Korea The drill aimed to verify the allies' capability to track and intercept enemy ballistic missiles, he said. He declined to clarify how long the drill would last, but Yonhap news agency said it was expected to continue until sometime next week.

The manoeuvres will also include a live-fire exercise and anti-submarine exercises, the spokesman added.

Duterte said it was incumbent upon the United States as the responsible country to not rise to Kim's provocations. He said he was sure Trump had cautioned his military not to allow the situation to spiral out of control. "Who am I to say that you should stop? But I would say 'Mr President, please see to it that there is no war because my region will suffer immensely,'" Duterte said.

"I will just communicate to [Trump], 'just let him play ... do not play into his hands'." He added: "The guy [Kim] simply wants to end the world, that is why he is very happy. He is always smiling. But he really wants to finish everything and he wants to drag us all down."

Donald Trump praises his first 100 days in office

President Donald Trump has described his first 100 days in office as an "incredible journey" during a speech at a rally in the state of Pennsylvania.

He used the same speech on Saturday to attack the news media and praise his own accomplishments. Delivering the speech in Harrisburg, which he had chosen to attend over the black-tie gala White House Correspondents' Dinner in Washington, DC, Trump began by launching a fresh attack on the news media.

"A large group of Hollywood actors and Washington media are consoling themselves in a hotel ballroom in our nation's capital right now," he said.

"Media outlets like CNN and MSNBC are fake news, and they would love to be with us here tonight, but they're trapped at the [White House Correspondents'] dinner which will be very very boring."

A brief look at Trump's first 100 days in office, Trump is the first president in 36 years not to attend the annual tradition at which White House officials mingle with members of the press corps and Hollywood celebrities.

Trump, however, said he was "thrilled to be more than 100 miles from Washington" to discuss the "great journey" of his first 100 days in office.
Pennsylvania was critical to Trump's victory. He won the state with 48 percent of the vote, the first time the state had voted for a Republican presidential candidate since George HW Bush in 1988.

Trump said some of his achievements during this phase of his term were the appointment of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court, the decision to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal and ending offshoring to "bring back American jobs".

"The TPP would have been a tremendous disaster for our country," he said.

Trump also used the speech to hint that the US was planning to withdraw from the Paris climate change agreement.

"I'll be making a big decision on the Paris accord over the next two weeks, and we'll see what happens," he said. Meanwhile, several thousand people marched from the Capitol to the White House in Washington, DC in protest against the Trump administration's energy policy.

Thousands protest Trump's climate policies According to the organisers, similar protests were taking place in 300 towns and cities across the country.

At the 100-day mark, opinion polls show that Trump's supporters during the campaign remain largely loyal.

Though the White House created a website lauding its accomplishments of the first 100 days, Trump has tried to play down the importance of the marker.

"It's a false standard, 100 days," Trump said while signing an executive order on Friday, "but I have to tell you, I don't think anybody has done what we've been able to do in 100 days, so we're very happy."

Trump is turning to what he is describing as the nation's biggest tax cut. It apparently falls short of Reagan's in 1981, and tax experts are sceptical that the plan would pay for itself.

The economy, so far, has been Trump's ally. Polls show that Americans feel slightly better about his job performance on that subject than his job performance overall.

The Correspondents' Dinner this year had fewer Hollywood celebrities in attendance. Television networks even invited behind-the-scenes employees. White House reporters noted seeing more colleagues in the room than in recent years.

Organisers said they were focusing on the main purpose of the dinner, honouring journalists for their work and awarding scholarships to students.

Bob Woodward, the veteran Washington Post journalist who with Carl Bernstein broke the Watergate scandal in 1972, addressed Trump's criticism of the media.

"Mr President: The media is not fake news," Woodward said. Addressing fellow journalists, he said: "Whatever the climate, we should and must persist and I believe we will."

Traditionally the US president holds a humorous speech at the event in which he pokes fun at the media, politicians and even himself, and a hired comedian also mocks the president. "We are here to celebrate the press, not the presidency," Jeff Mason, the White House Correspondents' Association president, said.

Man City to offer Iheanacho plus cash to Dortmund

Nigeria international Kelechi Iheanacho may continue his
professional career in the German Bundesliga next season.

English Premier League powerhouse Manchester City are prepared to offer Iheanacho to Borussia Dortmund as a sweetener in the proposed deal to bring Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to the Etihad Stadium.

Gabon star valued in the region of €70 million by Borussia Dortmund, City will use Iheanacho as makeweight in the deal to sign him and initial talks are understood to
have taken place.

The Taye Academy product is confirmed to be on the radar of other German clubs, including Hoffenheim and Bayer Leverkusen.

The 20-year-old Iheanacho has found game time hard to come by since this year started and an exit from Man City in the coming months is not out of topic.

The Citizens would prefer to sell the Nigerian to a foreign club, rather than their rivals in the Premier League.

Tennis legend, Ilie Nastase Apologizes for Comments on Serena Williams' Pregnancy, Baby

Romanian tennis great Ilie Nastase apologised for derogatory comments about former world number one Serena Williams, who is pregnant, and for a foul- mouthed Fed Cup tirade that saw him suspended by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

Nastase was overheard last Friday by a journalist talking about Williams' unborn baby being "chocolate with milk". Williams is black and her fiance, Alexis Ohanian, is white. Nastase said the comment was a "spontaneous" reaction to hearing Williams was expecting her first child.

Serena Williams, pictured here earlier this year in Melbourne, is pregnant with her first child.

"My words during the Fed Cup have rightfully caused controversy and upset the audience, the press and, most painfully for me, the tennis world," the former world number one, 70, said on Facebook. "I am fully aware that nothing can truly excuse my statements - not the tension of a high-stakes game, not my traditionally irreverent attitude, not the unfortunate escalation of the situation.

"My life remains dedicated to tennis and its audiences, so please accept my apologies, for whatever they may be worth right now." Nastase also said Williams was "one of the greatest players of all times and I know how much work goes into achieving these results".

The comments last Friday prompted outrage from Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam winner, and messages of support from the world of tennis and beyond.

"It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and my unborn child, and sexist comments against my peers," Williams, 35, had said.

'Difficult' days Nastase earned the nickname "Nasty" for his on-court outbursts and gamesmanship in his playing heyday in the 1970s. But it also described his game, which earned him two Grand Slam singles titles and more than 100 ATP titles.

"I was five when I first picked up a racquet. Since then, tennis has been more than a sport or a profession for me.

Tennis has been, and is, my life, and for tennis I have sacrificed almost everything, personal or professional," Nastase said in the statement.

"Unfortunately, now, in my 70s, I have somehow managed to do something I have never wanted or even imagined: to feel tennis moving further away from me. The last few days have been difficult for me."

Breaking: Anthony Joshua knocks out Klitschko to win heavyweight title (Photos)

Anthony Joshua admitted himself after getting off the canvas to finish Wladimir Klitschko and unify heavyweight titles during Saturday's dramatic slugfest, he's not perfect.

But his record remains so as Joshua (19-0, 19 KOs) proved he just might be the perfect fighter to make boxing's heavyweight division relevant once again.

In front of an electric crowd of 90,000 at London's Wembley Stadium, Joshua scored a pair of knockdowns in Round 11 to finish off an incredibly game Klitschko (64-5, 53 KOs) by TKO in a bout that marked the former champion's return after losing his trio of world titles 17 months ago. "[I'm] 19-0, three and a half years in the game," Joshua said. "As I've said, I'm not perfect, but I'm trying. I dig deep. It is what it is.

As I've said, if you don't take part, you'll never know the outcome." Joshua, 27, a rising star who won gold for England at the 2012 London Olympics, made the third defense of his IBF title and picked up the vacant WBA belt in the process. But he was forced to overcome severe adversity to get there after running out of gas and suffering a mid-fight knockdown the first of his young career.

In a big-time heavyweight showdown that not only lived up to but exceeded expectations, Joshua closed the show emphatically after entering the championship rounds leading on two of three scorecards.

Joshua rocked Klitschko, 41, with a vicious right uppercut and sent him down with a flurry that followed. Klitschko was knocked down a second time after a combination against the ropes, but he continued to fight back despite being hurt until referee David Fields jumped in to rescue him as Joshua was teeing off. "Both fighters gave their best.

The best man won tonight, and it's amazing event for boxing," Klitschko said. "Two gentlemen fought each other. Anthony was better today than I. It's really sad that I didn't make it tonight. I was planning to do it. It didn't work. But all the respect to Anthony and congratulations."

China deports U.S. citizen convicted of spying after two years in custody

China has deported an American citizen who was convicted and sentenced on an espionage charge after she was held in custody for more than two years.

A spokesman for the State Department confirmed that the U.S. is aware Chinese authorities deported 45-year-old Sandy Phan-Gillis on Friday.

The deportation follows a trial last week where Phan- Gillis was convicted of spying for the U.S. government from 1996 to 1998.

She was sentenced to three and a half years in prison. Phan-Gillis, an international business consultant from Houston, was detained by authorities on March 19, 2015, when she visited southern China.

Her family says she was simply on a trade mission with Mayor Ed Gonzalez of Houston to promote business relations between the city and China. Phan-Gillis' husband, Jeff Gillis, says his wife was not allowed to speak with her lawyers for more than one year and that China State Security had tortured her into making a false confession.

He said in a statement that the trial was closed to U.S. officials, journalists and family members. "Many of Sandy's friends and family members have been crying tears of joy throughout the day," Gillis said in a statement.

Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas said Phan-Gillis was unjustly "separated from her family" and detained in China on "baseless charges."

"Today, she is released and free again," he said in a statement. "This is a day of great celebration for her family and all Texans."

Jimmy Greaves held the honour for nigh on half-a- century (the last of his top-flight goals coming for West Ham United). Greavesy’s 366 goals were scored across a brilliant decade-and-a-half at the top with Chelsea (124), AC Milan (9), Tottenham Hotspur (220) and the aforementioned West Ham (13).

2) As for the league, ah! Real Madrid have scored in EACH of their last 47 La Liga matches, the club’s best ever run in La Liga.

3)Cristiano's goal was Real Madrid's 150th goal of the season so far in all competitions. Yes, they like to score goals!

4) Ronaldo has now scored 20+ league goals in ALL of his 8 seasons with Real Madrid.

6) Cristiano Ronaldo has now scored 33 headed league goals since 2012/13, more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.

I’ll reveal how Jonathan was removed in my book –Tinubu

The National Leader of the All Progressives Congress , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu , on Friday said he was working on a book that would detail how his party removed former President Goodluck Jonathan from office.

Tinubu reportedly played an instrumental role in the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Congress for Progressive Change and All Nigeria Peoples Party to form the APC that presented President Muhammadu Buhari as candidate

Buhari removed an incumbent President from office in 2015. Speaking at the launch of “ Against the Run of Play ” , a book authored by Chairman, ThisDay Editorial Board , Olusegun Adeniyi , Tinubu said he would soon reveal how the APC defeated the Peoples Democratic Party in the last presidential election.

Tinubu , who was represented at the event by his media aide , Mr. Tunde Rahman , also noted that he played a big role in the emergence of Prof . Yemi Osinbajo as Nigeria’ s Vice -President.

He said people should not dwell on his loss of the vice- presidential seat but on the achievements of Osinbajo , whom he had nominated for the position. Rahman said, “ Some have said that they will tell their story, Asiwaju is also working on his own book to tell his account of what transpired.

To tell how he was able to mould the APC to the extent that it was able to unseat an incumbent president for the first time in the history of our contemporary politics.

“ The account of what transpired as told by Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the book and as presented in some newspapers is not about him losing the vice-presidency and the eventual vice -president emerging, as the reviewer has put it.

“ Asiwaju spoke in greater context in that book , and when people are making comments , they should speak with the context in which he spoke. If they are saying that Asiwaju lost the vice -presidency and that a vice- president emerged , where did he emerge from? Who nominated the vice-president? “ I’ d like to say that even the vice-president has said on some occasions that a certain political leader from the South -West nominated him for the job and we all know who that is.

“ That nomination has been a very good choice from all the wonderful things the vice-president has been doing .”

Tottenham Hotspur will play home games at Wembley in 2017-18 season

Tottenham Hotspur are due to move into their new stadium next year.

Tottenham have confirmed they will play their home games at Wembley for the 2017-18 season while construction work on their new stadium takes place.

The club's new 61,000-seater ground is being built next to the site of their current home White Hart Lane.

Spurs played their Champions League and Europa League ties at Wembley this term but won just one of four games.

"This is an incredibly exciting time in the history of the club," said club chairman Daniel Levy in a statement.

"Wembley will be our home for a season and then we will return to what will be one of the best stadiums of its kind and the most unique in the world playing host to NFL (American football) games too - a stadium that will be key to our future growth and success."

The new stadium is expected to cost £750m but will create about 3,500 jobs in the area when it is finished, according to the club.

Spurs, who are four points behind Premier League leaders Chelsea with five games to play this season, face Manchester United in their final game at the current White Hart Lane on 14 May.

Their most recent experience of Wembley was last weekend's FA Cup semi-final, which they lost 4-2 to Chelsea.

What TV channel will it be on?
Sky Sports Box Office will host the fight. Here's how you can watch it , irrespective of whether you are a Sky customer or not.

What time is it likely to start?
The fight is due to begin at 10.10pm, though that is likely to change on the night depending on how the undercard fights go.

The bookmakers have got Joshua pegged as the favourite: New customer offer: Joshua to beat Klitschko enhanced to 25/1 by Coral

Joshua's public workout in an attempt to get under his opponent's skin. The two heavyweights' latest attempts to promote Saturday's fight at Wembley took place in the shadow of the national stadium, at Wembley Arena.

They are expected to attract a crowd of 90,000, a post- war record for a fight in the UK, and on an evening which could define both fighters' careers Klitschko will provide Joshua with his biggest test.

The 41-year-old appears to have attempted to soften the edge Joshua possesses in the build-up to this fight by consistently being respectful of the IBF champion.

He represents a significant step up in class for Joshua, whose temperament could be tested if Klitschko leans on him throughout Saturday's fight and repeatedly ties him up in the same way he has so many others.

Klitschko's slow progress throughout his workout - in which he spent a significant amount of time getting his hands wrapped in the ring, which in theory could have been done privately - delayed Joshua's by 30 minutes.

However, asked if that had been deliberate, the Ukrainian responded: "No, that's not a mind game. I'm here, I'm ready to fight. "You will see a Klitschko who's enjoying himself (Today). I'm really enjoying myself right now, this event, and I can't wait for Saturday night. "It's Klitschko territory from the beginning (of the fight, not just the second half)."

Serdang police chief assistant commissioner Megat Mohd Aminuddin Megat Alias said the 42-year old Nigerian man was arrested near Pangsapuri Anggerik, Taman Suria in Seri Kembangan, on Saturday, April 22.

His 32-year old girlfriend, who is also a Nigerian, was also picked up by the police in his flat. Megat said he was found carrying a plastic bag containing 24 small packets of dried leaves, believed to be cannabis. The packets weighed 150 grammes.

"We seized some RM2,000 worth of ganja packed in small packets and sachets. "We believe the suspect had been operating his drug business near a restaurant where he worked," he said. Further checks in his flat found another bag containing cannabis, weighing 727.68 gram.

Megat said, based on the initial probe, the man had no work permit while his girlfriend is a student in a private college.

"The man had been staying in the country for 10 years. He had entered the country under the pretext of pursuing his studies here.

He has only been active in drug trafficking since several months ago," he told a press conference at the police district headquarter on Thursday.

Kabiru Marafa, Minister of FCT, Mohammed Bello, Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai and the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris at the National Mosque, Abuja yesterday.

But the State House had on Thursday issued a statement that the President was recuperating at his private residence, a reason why he is rarely seen in the public.

However Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun State); Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara State) and Abdulahi Ganduje (Kano State) were amongst those that worshiped at the Villa Mosque.

Yesterday, Aso Villa has assured Nigerians that there is no need for apprehension over the health of our President, Muhammadu Buhari, despite concerns being raised in the media.

In a statement today, senior special assistant on media, Malam Garba Shehu said President Buhari’s absence at the Federal Executive Council meeting of Wednesday, April 26, was a last minute decision.

“Otherwise, the cabinet and the public might have been alerted in advance. As eager as he is to be up and about, the President’s doctors have advised on his taking things slowly, as he fully recovers from the long period of treatment in the United Kingdom some weeks ago.

“President Buhari himself, on his return to the country, made Nigerians aware of the state of his health while he was in London. Full recovery is sometimes a slow process, requiring periods of rest and relaxation, as the Minister for Information, Lai Mohammed, intimated in his press briefing after the FEC meeting on Wednesday.

“Despite his lack of visibility, Nigerians should rest assured that President Buhari has not abdicated his role as Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria.

“He receives daily briefings on the activities of government, and confers regularly with his Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo.

“His private residence, in which he has been spending the majority of his time recently, also has a fully equipped office.

“God is the giver of life and health. We are grateful that He has seen our President through the worst period of his convalescence in London.

“We are thankful that the President has passed a number of benchmarks already. We pray that God continues to see him through this period of recuperation.Amen “

Some of the labour leaders in Lagos on Friday called for the fast-tracking of discussions on the minimum wage. Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) they said the continuous delay in discussing and recommending payment of a new minimum wage would not augur well for industrial harmony.

“The delay, apart from worsening the economic well-being of Nigerians, particularly the workers, Industrial peace and harmony cannot be guaranteed,” he said. According to him, there is no doubt that workers are going through economic difficulties but expressed optimism that they would rejoice whenever discussions on the minimum wage were concluded.

“There is no gain saying the fact that workers are going through very difficult times. Mr Lateef Oyelekan, President, National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE), also called for the hastening of discussions.

According to Lateef, a review of the wage will serve as compensation to workers who have prayed ceaselessly for the quick recovery of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Many Nigerian workers prayed for the President when he was indisposed.

Now that he is back, we are hopeful that he will consider their plight,’’ he said. Oyelekan also suggested that states governments be pressurized to pay any amount that would be agreement on.

He said it was regrettable that almost a year after bailout funds were released, some of the states still owed workers salary arrears of six to 10 months.

“Today, a worker with four children can no longer send them to school, feed and cater for the family needs because his or her income (N18,000) is inadequate,’’ he said. Oyelekan however commended the Federal Government for releasing Foreign Exchange to boost production, adding that many companies were already going comatose because for lack of forex
