2 Students Shot At Great Mills, Maryland, High School; Gunman Dies

Two students at a Maryland high school were shot today after a classmate opened fire in the hallway just before the start of classes, according to St. Mary's County Sheriff Tim Cameron.

Great Mills High School remained on lockdown after the shooting was "contained" when a school resource officer "engaged" the gunman, St. Mary's County Sheriff Tim Cameron told NBC Washington.

The chaos unfolded before 8 a.m. ET when the gunman walked into the 1,600-student school and fired a round at a 16-year-old female student, also hitting a 14-year-old male.

The shooter was injured and taken to the hospital, where he later died, officials said.

The sheriff said the school resource officer engaged the shooter and ended the threat, which occurred in a hallway just before classes began. The officer fired a round at the shooter, who was armed with a handgun, and the shooter fired a round as well, Cameron said.

"This is what we train for, this is what we prepare for, and this is what we pray that we never have to do. On this day, we realized our worst nightmare," Cameron said.

The White House this month said it will propose funding firearms training for school personnel and bolster firearm background checks, but steered clear of a previous idea floated by President Donald Trump to raise the minimum legal age to buy semiautomatic weapons from 18 to 21.

The state of Maryland prohibits anyone under the age of 21 from having certain firearms, such as handguns or assault weapons

The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three persons for their alleged involvement in the attack on a Corpers’ Lodge in Sagbama area of the state, during which the suspects allegedly severed a corps member’s hand.

Confirming the arrest, the Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asinim Butswat, however, said a fourth suspect had yet to be arrested.

Suspected cult members had, on Sunday, allegedly attacked a Corpers’ Lodge at Angalabiri community of Sagbama, severing the hand of a corps member identified as Luntis Julius, from Taraba State, with a machete.

Also stolen from the Corpers’ Lodge during the attack at about 2.30am were a laptop and two mobile phones belonging to the victim.

A corps member, who pleaded anonymity, lamented the security lapses in most of the corpers’ lodges in the state, claiming that the security promised corps members was lacking.

“Most of the Corpers’ Lodges are at the mercy of armed hoodlums and thieves.

“Sometimes, female corps members are harrassed on a daily basis, ” the corp member had said.

Giving insight into the arrest of the three suspects, Butswat, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspects’ apprehension was made possible by the indigenes of the community who were shocked by the dastardly act.

Butswat said further investigation was ongoing to arrest the fourth suspect involved in the attack.

Police Revealed Appalling Details Of Foiled Terror Attack That Would Have killed Dozens Of Kenyans

Kenyan Inspector General of Police,  Joseph Boinnet, on Wednesday, revealed chilling details of the recent foiled terror attack, which is said to be one of the most successful arrests in recent times.

The terror suspects arrested in Isiolo last month, one of whom had booked a hotel room for almost a week near the Central Police Station, were targeting the Judiciary buildings and a government installation.

Mr Boinnet said that the vehicle with registration number KBM 200D that was seized from the suspects in Merti, Isiolo County, was laden with approximately 80kg of high-grade Trinitrotoluene (TNT) explosives.

The police boss revealed that the vehicle, which would have been used as a Suicide Vehicle Bound Explosive Device (SVBIED), was set to be driven to Nairobi and would have killed hundreds of innocent civilians.

A police investigation revealed that one of the suspects, Abdimajit Adan, 24, had booked a hotel room near the Central Police Station 10 days earlier, and only travelled to Merti on the day he was arrested, leaving a note to the hotel management pleading for them to reserve the same room for him because he would be back.

He was arrested alongside Mohammed Nane on Thursday, February 15, after a brief exchange of fire.

Police found five AK-47 assault rifles, 1,099 rounds of ammunition, and 36 fully loaded magazines in their car. A third suspect was killed at the scene in Yamincha, while two others escaped.

It emerged after the vehicle was towed to Nairobi for scrutiny that the suspects had laced it with eight projectiles and shrapnel materials around its body.

Each of the ranged weapon, according to Mr Boinnett, contains approximately 10kg of TNT.
The shrapnel in it include ball bearings meant to maximise causalities when it explodes.

“Typically, terrorists prefer ramming an SVBIED on a gate or main entrance to the target. To avoid premature detonation.” he said during a press conference outside the DCI Headquarters’ Forensic laboratory.

“This allows the second team of terrorist armed with AK47 assault rifles to stage a siege inside the target building,” Mr Boinnett added, giving an example of the Kulbiyow and El Adde attacks where the SVBIED were used to stage attacks.

The police boss said if the terrorists had been successful, the SVBIED would have caused a high magnitude explosion that would have brought down a building frontal structure while the explosion wave would have killed hundreds of Kenyans.

“The bomb would have destroyed buildings, vehicles, and infrastructural structures nearby besides killing hundreds of people within a radius of 250 metres,” he said.

An expert attached to the Bomb and Hazardous Disposal Unit explained that just a kilogramme of TNT can cause destruction in up to 11 metres radius from the epicentre. The recovered explosives weighed 100kg in total.

“The explosion would also cause massive traffic disruption and such an outcome would allow for another attack to take place,” Mr Boinnet said.

The objective of the destruction and murder, the police boss said, was to spread fear, attract attention of local, regional and international media and to embarrass government security forces so that they overreact and appear repressive.

The police had three days after arresting the suspects in Merti, nabbed two more suspects and found them with receipts of two motorcycles.

Stolen Baby Jesus Statue Returned To Church After Nearly 90 Years

A suspicious package that ended up on the doorstep of a New Jersey church this week turned out to be an unexpected blessing, just in time for Easter.

And when police arrived to ensure everyone at Our Lady of Grace in Hoboken was safe, they discovered it was a special gift nearly 90 years in the making.

Wrapped in brown paper with no return address on the box, the staff found a baby Jesus statue with a note claiming it had been stolen from the Hoboken church in the 1930s.

“To Whom it may concern,

“My Mom told me that the Baby Jesus had been stolen from the church Nativity display at Our Lady of Grace when she was a young girl of about 12 years of age in the early 1930’s.

“It came into her father’s possession somehow, and I don’t know why he didn’t return it.

“Instead, he gave it to my Mother after she was married, and she too kept it until her passing when it came to me.

“Knowing the story, I felt it should be returned to the rightful owner, and you will find it enclosed.”

Rev. Alex Santora said the unexpected return of the 1930’s-era statue is like a gift from above.

“I think it’s a sign that God has graced them to do the right thing,” the pastor said.

Thankfully, the folks at Our Lady of Grace say the statue is the right fit for their nativity scene, where what’s old will soon be new again this Easter season.

IMT, Enugu To Begin Award Of Degree In 2019 Academic Year

The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu says it will begin award of degrees in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) from 2018/2019 academic session.

The Rector of IMT, Prof. Augustine Nweze made the disclosure in Enugu on Friday at the 36th Matriculation of the institution.

Nweze said that the award of degrees in some disciplines was sequel to an agreement with the UNN.

He explained that the senate and council of UNN had given approval for the affiliation, while the institution awaited final visitation of the National Universities Commission (NUC) in July, for final approval.

“It is the desire of our Visitor and Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to give IMT a University status in the shortest possible time.

“To give life to that dream, we have, on our own, gone into affiliation with one of Nigeria’s foremost universities, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka to award degrees in many disciplines.

“I sincerely hope that the new students will be some of the earliest beneficiaries of this partnership when it fully materializes by the beginning of next academic year,” he added.

The Rector said that IMT established in 1973 and modeled after the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston Massachusetts, USA, had nine academic schools and 40 academic departments presently.

He said that the matriculation marks the end of secondary school education of the new students and beginning of their tertiary education, a major watershed in their development as young adults.

“This predisposes you to academic and moral training as well as skill acquisition that will eventually make you worthy in character and learning,” he said.

He advised the fresh students to shun cultism, examination malpractices and other vices adding that the institute was deeply committed to scholarship.

“Management is working assiduously to improve lecture halls, laboratories and studios to make them fit for learning.

“We are immensely thankful to the Governor of State, Chief Ugwuanyi for giving us the opportunity to serve our people in our different capacities in IMT” he said.

In a message to the event, the governor pledged to do everything possible to ensure upgrade of IMT to a degree awarding institution.

Ugwuanyi said that the plan had been long overdue as the school had churned out professionals and prominent citizens in the country.

He commended the management, staff and students for their efforts in taking the school to greater height.

Newsmen report that 3103 National and Higher National Diploma students took part in the matriculation.

Woman Shares Touching Story As She Celebrates Her Housemaid Of 13 Years On Her Matriculation

According to a Nigerian facebook user, Gloria Ernest Samuel,  on Wednesday celebrates her housemaid of 13 years, who recently gained admission into a higher institution.

She wrote;

I am proud of us...
On 17th February, 2005, my husband brought her home as my house help. She was smaller than l wanted. I needed a much bigger girl, but the mum could only allow her as the elder sister was elsewhere. The only option was to manage her, but managing meant that l had to nurse her as she was too small to even wash her own clothes, the breakable kitchenwares etc.

It wasn't also easy to raise a child with certain orientations. But l tried. When the task became too tedious,I packaged her home, but the father gave us a mind boggling question: if she is your daughter, will you throw her away? Please, train her as yours. I want her different. As stunning as that question sounded, l thank God that l took that challenge seriously and to my heart.

I teach, I scream, I plead, l appeal and l advice... To make sure she turns out better than she would.  Sometimes, she makes me furious, laugh, cry, and  proud, just like now. From Primary 2, she had gone through to secondary, made her papers, have trained on computer literacy before going for skill acquisition.

Today, she has moved to a higher level. She is matriculating at Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, and l am so happy that our 13years  together is not a waste after all.She has long ceased to be a maid in my home. She is now Aunty's Auntie, my little sister, my children's Auntie. And no one knows she is not my sibling.

Uchechi, today is the beginning of a new life for you. We are happy for you. Sky is your jumping pad.We pray that you graduate with flying colours. And we continue to pray for financial breakthrough so that you do not suffer any stress concerning your education. Congratulations, dear. We are super proud of you.

Zimbabwean Woman Was Caught Having Sex With Her Husband's Father (Photos)

A married woman from Chitauro village in Nyamweda area in Mhondoro recently committed suicide after being caught having s_ex with her father-in-law in a nearby Gumtree plantation area.

42-year-old Sarudzai Ganyiwa who was married to Edmore Chitauro (48) was reportedly caught red-handed playing the "hide my sausage game" with her husband's father, Simon Chitauro, aged 65, two weeks ago.

Surprisingly, the father-in-law is also the Chitauro village head. Reports say the two illicit lovebirds have been seeing each other for quite some, and their affair had become talk of the village.

When reached for comment, police spokesperson for Mashonaland West Province, Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara confirmed Sarudzai Ganyiwa's death and said she had consumed poison to end her life.

"The case of a woman who died in Nyamweda area in Mhondoro after consuming poison, was reported at our Nyamweda police base. She reportedly committed suicide after being caught sleeping with her father-in-law in the bush. As police, we say, come what may, people should engage in talks to reach a common ground, not to think of committing suicide whenever something goes wrong," said Insp Mabgweazara.

Allegations are that on the fateful day, the incestruous couple was caught in the act by Lucious Chitauro, a son to the things-loving 65-year-old village head. They were caught busy as rabbits, playing the pumping game in the bush. Lucious is said to have rushed home to inform his mother about the unbelievable horizontal gymnastics his father and his daughter-in-law were playing in the bush.

Meanwhile, village head Chitauro is denying being caught feasting on his daughter-in-law's "honey jar". This is despite his confirmation that he also contributed towards compensating his son's in-laws over the alleged matter.

However, another family member, Isaiah Chitauro (40) – a son to village head Chitauro, confirmed the incident and said their father had brought shame to the entire clan.

"My young brother, Lucious, is the one who first saw the two walking towards the Gumtree plantation area where he followed and caught them in the act before rushing to alert our mother, Charity Mudarikwa. When our mother arrived at the scene, she found the two lying together, stark Unclad. However the daughter-in-law managed to flee. I was really pained by this incident. I then notified my brother Edmore, who is the husband of the cheating woman, that his wife had been caught having s_ex with our father, her father-in-law. A number of people knew about the two seeing each other, but no one had enough guts to confront him," said Isiah, a son to the said 'se_xful' village head.

He added that while their father was herding their cattle in the bush, Sarudzai would at times go with food to her father-in-law after which the 65-year-old lover of things would let loose his 'anaconda' and feast on Sarudzai's forbidden fruit as 'desert'.

"After the incident, Sarudzai later went to our father's homestead, where she was heavily insulted by our family members who labelled her a shameless woman. She was then chucked out of the homestead. Unfortunately, she consumed some poisonous substance and died three days later. The trouble causer (our father) is also the village head, so we don't know how to handle the matter now. It's now very risky to leave our wives in the village when we have such a predator amongst us," he said.

After being caught poking his daughter-in-law's 'southern hemisphere tunnel' with his red-headed 'joystick', the village head is said to have offered to compensate his wife with a cow before begging her not to tell any outsider about the shameful incident.

Edmore, whose wife was caught dishing out her bedroom goodies, is said to have moved out of their family homestead in fear of committing a murder crime as he was extremely angry. He said he married his wife in 1992.

"We have been married for 26 years with my wife. We were even united in holy matrimony in church by our pastor. I'm a cattle dipper, and I'm always busy with my work, so my father took advantage of that and the two fell in love. What used to surprise me is that I used to find used cond_oms in my garden. I want my father to compensate me for what he did to me. When they got caught in the act, I didn't ask my wife about it, however, I went to inform her grandmother about it, but she refused to come and talk to my family about the issue," he said.

"This is not the first time that my father has been caught 'crack-filling' a married woman's "se_xual valve" with his bedroom gun. He was evicted from Mugari area amid allegations that he forced women to have s_ex with him first before he could hand out food donations to them from donors. After my wife drank poison, just before she breathed her last, she confessed that she had been cheating on me for some time with my father," Edmore added.

Interestingly, the village head's official wife, a mother to Edmore, however denied that her husband had been caught "servicing" his daughter-in-law's "s_exual tunnel".

"The talk is doing rounds, but there is no evidence! Yes I went to the bush, but I caught my husband putting on his pair of trousers. I didn't bother to ask him what he was up to. It's a lie that I insulted my son's wife. I only confronted my husband later on and he responded impolitely," said the 62-year-old woman.
Simon also denied being caught playing the adult's "see-saw up-and-down game" with his son's wife.

"They are saying I was caught sleeping with my daughter-in-law. But to me these are lies. They just want to take over my post as village head, that's all. It's true that I also paid a cow that was used to compensate my son's in-laws. It's not because I was feasting on my daughter-in-law. When this matter has been settled, we will sit down as a family then I hand over the village head manship to them.

Sarudzai's father, 86-year-old Sekuru Moses Utete, said he demanded a compensation from his son-in-law because they did not go to the hospital to check on Sarudzai after she consumed poison. He is said to have demanded four cows and goats.

"What my daughter's father-in-law did was very bad. So it means my daughter had two husbands," said Sekuru Utete.

Nobody Can Rig 2019 Elections - Ekweremadu

The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has assured that with vigilance of the Nigerian youths, nobody will be able to rig the 2019 general elections.

Receiving the national, zonal and state youth leaders of the PDP in his office, he also assured them that the National Assembly caucus of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would not be intimidated from holding the government accountable, just as it would continue to speak the truth in defence of democracy.

In a statement by his media aide, Uche Anichukwu, Ekweremadu said, “Nobody should be deceived that they will rig elections in 2019. The international community will also be watching; and like the late Sam Mbakwe said, ‘if you are awake, the rat will never take your fish.’ So if we shine our eyes, nobody will rig us out.”

“I’m sure some of you are now conversant with the misrepresentation of my statement on the floor of the senate last week where I cautioned against brigandage, impunity and thuggery; and I said as leaders and politicians, we must do the correct thing before we endanger our democracy. That was what I said.

“Never bother about their propaganda. We will continue to speak the truth. We will continue to defend our democracy and urge our leaders to always do the right thing.

“Sometimes, we may be misunderstood, but we will remain unrelenting. It was the great Nnamdi Azikiwe who said that the best judge of human conduct is conscience. Keep saying the right thing. The person you are speaking to is hearing you; someday his conscience will prick him and he will do the right thing,” he said.

Ekweremadu added that they would not allow anybody to truncate Nigeria’s democracy because “we believe that your own future is here now. Nobody will take his future in the past and come to continue your own future.”

He warned youths against any form of electoral violence, describing it as “an ill wind that blows no man any good.”

Earlier in his address, the National Youth Leader of the PDP, Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye, said Nigerian youths had suffered so much under the APC-led administration and were ready to support the PDP to return to power.

Rwanda Bans Use Of Loudspeakers In Mosques Just weeks After The Government Closed Hundreds Of Churches

The Rwandan government has banned mosques from using loudspeakers during the call to prayer in the capital city just weeks after the government closed hundreds of churches in Kigali.

The effort to reduce noise pollution is part of a programme of improvement called Kigali City 2040 to make it Africa's top business and tourism powerhouse within the next 22 years.

The ban affects Nyarugenge sector, which is home to some of the city's largest mosques. Nyarugenge sector head Havuguziga Charles told the BBC Kinyarwanda service that the new regulations were aimed at curbing noise pollution, and had been met with little resistance by local imams.
"They have told us that it doesn’t matter (stop using loudspeakers). I have found that they have begun to respect it and it has not stopped their followers from going to pray according to their praying time” he said.
They say the calls, made five times a day, have been disturbing residents of the Nyarugenge district, home to the capital's biggest mosques.

The majority of Rwandans are Christian. Muslims make up around 5% of the population.

The government says the Muslim community has complied with the ban.

Barcelona 3 - 0 Chelsea: Lionel Messi Shutdown Chelsea In Camp

Barcelona sauntered through to the quarter-final of the Champions League as Messi's family celebrated the birth of baby Ciro last weekend, which saw Lionel Messi miss last Saturday's trip to Malaga.

But he was back for the Champions League clash with Chelsea on Wednesday night and he opened the scoring after 128 seconds, slotting the ball through Thibaut Courtois' legs and racing off to celebrate and to dedicate the goal to his newborn son.

Individual errors pockmarked Chelsea's performance from the outset. After three minutes, Messi threaded the ball through Thibaut Courtois' legs from an angle that seemed impossibly acute. Seventeen minutes later Messi snatched the ball from a dawdling Fabregas and squared it to Dembélé. The 20-year-old took a touch to gain composure before firing the ball in to the depths of the top corner.

Marcos Alonso hit the post with a free-kick shortly before half-time and was denied a penalty five minutes after the interval. Chelsea were inferior, but also luckless.

There was a sense of inevitability when Messi picked up the ball 30 yards out and skipped around two Chelsea players before firing the ball through Courtois' legs for a second time.

Trump Blocks Broadcom's Bid To Buy Qualcomm

US President Donald Trump blocked Monday an unsolicited bid by Singapore-based Broadcom to take over smartphone chipmaker Qualcomm, citing national security concerns.

Trump issued an order barring the proposed mega-acquisition, saying there is credible evidence such a deal "threatens to impair the national security of the United States," according to a White House statement.

The order came despite Broadcom's assurances that it would complete its move to the United States by early April, ahead of a planned Qualcomm shareholder vote on the $117 billion deal -- meaning any national security concerns were moot.

"Broadcom's proposal to acquire Qualcomm has always been premised on the completion of Broadcom's previously announced plan to redomicile," the company said in a statement.

"In short, US national security concerns are not a risk to closing, as Broadcom never plans to acquire Qualcomm before it completes redomiciliation."

The Treasury Department said in a letter over the weekend that on three separate occasions Broadcom had violated a Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States order by failing to give advance notice before taking actions such as filing takeover-related securities filings in the United States.

A CFIUS investigation of the proposed acquisition so far has "confirmed" national security concerns earlier identified by US officials, according to the letter.

Trump ordered Broadcom and Qualcomm to "immediately and permanently abandon the proposed takeover."

The rival chip giants were told to notify CFIUS in writing that all aspects of the order had been followed.

- Battling boards -

Qualcomm has been maneuvering for weeks to rebuff Broadcom's unwanted advances, and had asked CFIUS to look into national security implications of a merger.

Concern over China's potential influence, and rising US protectionist sentiment, hangs over an effort by California-based Qualcomm to repel a Singaporean firm's hostile takeover bid.

Qualcomm rejected multiple Broadcom offers during weeks of parries and thrusts between the two firms since the proposed deal emerged in November.

The company, which makes most of the world's microprocessors for smartphones, had postponed until April 5 an annual shareholders' meeting set for this week after secretly requesting a national security review of Broadcom's bid.

CFIUS noted that a Broadcom-Qualcomm merger could weaken Qualcomm's leadership in the field.

This would likely help Chinese competitors such as telecommunications firm Huawei, particularly in the emerging 5G blazing fast wireless internet, where a stronger China could present a national security issue.

President Muhammad Buhari on Monday told stakeholders in Makurdi that he did not know that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, flouted his express directive to relocate to Benue State during the crisis in which scores of people were killed.

In the wake of the killings in January, president Buhari had ordered Idris to relocate to the state but the IG only spent one day and left.

Buhari, who paid official visit to Benue State on Monday, said he did the needful by ordering the IG to relocate to the state but added,

“I did not know that IG did not stay in the state.”

He insisted that the relationship between farmers and herdsmen would continue, hence, the need for people of the state to learn to live with peacefully.

Buhari also denounced the insinuations that he abandoned the people of the state in their trying moments, saying,

“I have friends here in the state, there is no way I can deliberately overlook what is happening here and other parts of the country.”

“Let me appeal to our people in the state to apply more restraint, the relationship between farmers and herders will continue, it behoves on us to keep encouraging ourselves to continue to live together peacefully,” the President counselled.

He noted that despite the situation in which the country has found itself, some Nigerians are not sympathetic with government.

He recalled that because of the general situation of the country before he came to office, “security, economy and corruption were the bases of our campaigns.”

While saying that he had taken note of all what the stakeholders said,Buhari said he would not make any promise until next time he visits the state.

Earlier, Governor Samuel Ortom had told the President that the state had lost many lives after the mass burial of 73 victims of New Year attack.

He said, “65 more people have been killed after the mass burial of 73 persons, also 26 more were killed in Okpokwu, with over 5,000 displaced in Mbatoho community.
